On St Barts Island, there are two “puff-worthy” stops for Cuban stogies: La Casa del Habano and Le Comptoir du Cigare.Â
La Casa del Habano can be found at Villa Créole, St Jean and their number is 590-590-27-78-73.
Le Comptoir du Cigare is at 6 Rue du Général-de-Gaulle in Gustavia. When you get to the island, you can call them at 590-590-27-50-62. They have an online shop, if you want to browse before you get here.
Smoke your Cohibas and Montecristos before departing St Barths: These coveted cigars are illegal in the United States.
There are really only three things that aren’t costly in St Barts: gas, alcohol, and cigars. This is due to the island’s tradition as a free port; that means there is almost no importation tax, no sales tax, no VAT. We also have a history in trafficking these very goods, as St Barts used to be very poor and any kind of trade was welcomed. However, that doesn’t mean that there is trafficking today, it just means that the people of the island are used to having these goods at very low prices.
Most restaurants and villas are open-air in their layout, so the smell of the cigar smoke is less of a nuisance here than it would be in a closed environment. And, as any cigar afficionado will tell you, Cuban cigars are truly the best. Enjoy them safely here in St Barts.
